Michael DiMartino | Arts and Culture • "Global Rhythms"

Michael DiMartino has been producing events for 30 years. These events range from small cultural arts related events to large international festivals including Mexico, Brazil, Egypt and Morocco. He also founded Global Rhythms, a world music radio show that lasted for 3 years in the 1990's and GAIA-Vision, a TV show dedicated to performing, visual and healing arts that ran in 12 cities in New England for over 4 years. 

Michael also worked for the Robert Frost library in Amherst Massachusetts as a media assistant and over the last 30 years he has also produced two full length musicals and over 20 different Cd's for various musical talent. Mr. DiMartino also founded World Beat Ensemble an educational program that has presented in over a hundred different schools, institutions and venues. In the past he has worked for the Massachusetts five    college system doing music related support for the dance department. He currently works part time for the University of California Dance &   Theatre Department in Santa Cruz, California.

Tom Mooers | Environment - "Range of Light" 

Tom has built a twenty year track record in land conservation in California.  Before joining the staff of Sierra Watch as founding Executive Director in 2001, Tom worked as Field Director for Greenbelt Alliance in the San Francisco Bay Area and as Assistant Executive Director of the League to Save Lake Tahoe.  Tom is also a graduate of the Green Corps, Field School for Environmental Organizing and the University of California, Los Angeles.  He lives in Grass Valley with his wife and their four kids – the youngest of whom likes to remind him, “Mountains are more important than money.”

Lior Rahmanian | Health - "Gift of Health"

Lior has dedicated the past decade of his life in broadening his understanding and practice of spiritual growth with an emphasis on the effects of daily habits and routines on overall health and the strength of the immune system. He is an Ayurvedic Health Practitioner Graduate from the California college of Ayurveda.

Lorraine Reich | Peace & Justice - "Peace & Justice Report"

Lorraine Reich talks on the Golden Road Radio Hour on topics of Peace & Justice.  Lorraine is a long-term Board member of the Peace & Justice Center of Nevada County, a non-profit started by the late folk hero and activist, B. Utah Phillips, following the September 2001 Trade Tower attacks.  The Peace Center promotes programs of education and events to raise awareness of the many issues of our times, including “peace recruiters” on local High School campuses to counter-balance the pervasive presence of military recruiters, and political films shown on the fourth Friday of each month at The Open Book.  As a career attorney and self-acclaimed activist, Lorraine maintains offices in Grass Valley, California, and also serves on the board of local ACLU, and Move to Amend - Nevada County.

Pleasure to meet you, my name is Leslee-Anne N. Sesno. At the Golden Road Radio Hour, I am the Field Correspondent collecting voices from the community about social issues with the aim to bridge the gap across generations. In our local and global communities, we face many challenges. As a community through the radio show, we have the opportunity to speak up and be heard.

Currently I am pursuing my Master's Degree in Social Work at University of Southern California. I received my Bachelor’s in Psychology from University of California, Santa Cruz and have been working with nonprofit organizations in the Bay Area and San Diego regions with the purpose to help others empower themselves to open their awareness about our individual and community growth and act on our dreams.

Oscar C. Pérez PhD is a cross-cultural mentor, consultant, and cultural advisor. Gail Woodman | Foothill Arts, Resources and Media (FARM)

Gail Woodman is a native Californian, having lived in Nevada City/Grass Valley for over 34 years.  Along with her strong small business management experience, she, for over two years, produced and directed a weekly, hour long, live-to-tape show, Nevada County Interviews, which aired on local public access television.  While at NCTV, she was employed as a Program Developer and was responsible for initiating Student Intern Programs.  For more than five years, Gail has served as CFO on the Board of Foothill Arts, Resources and Media (FARM). In addition, she is co-creator of "Thoughts for the Road", and a regular contributor to Golden Road Radio Hour.

 

 

David Comstock | Arts & Culture - "Gold Country History"

When Dave and Ardis Comstockbegan publishing California history in 1979 they were living off the grid near the former gold-mining towns of You Bet and Red Dog. They had no telephone, and no power but what they generated themselves. In 1989 they installed a battery-powered microwave telephone link, and in 1999 they began using solar power to run computers, printers and lights. In 2000 their then-obsolete phone system bit the dust and was replaced by a modern cell phone. In mid-2008 they obtained their first wireless link to the internet.

Jeannie Wood | Arts & Culture - "Gold Country History from The Asian Perspective"

In addition to being Executive Director of the Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra (CATS), Jeannie serves as its Marketing Director and Box Office Manager, and is the Producer of its Cultural Enrichment Program.  Although having acted on the stage in the past, her primary interests today are in marketing, public relations, theatre administration, and development. As one of the founding members of CATS, Jeannie is grateful to the community for their support of twenty-two amazing years. She is also a taiko drummer with Grass Valley Taiko.

Sierra Stages | Arts & Culture

Sierra Stages is a community theater which enriches the cultural life of Nevada County by providing high quality, affordable and accessible performances for everyone. Among their goals is to create an ongoing and viable community theater in the Grass Valley and Nevada City area.The annual Elly Awards are presented by the Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance (SARTA) and honor outstanding achievements of community theaters and artists in the Sacramento area.  The Elly "season" runs annually from July 1 through June 30. The Elly Awards are named for the late Eleanor McClatchy, who was a devoted patron of the local arts. Sierra Stages has received 53 Elly Award nominations in our first seven seasons.

Craig’s background encompasses almost every aspect of the music industry, from managing the A&R department at RCA records to producing industry showcases and developing independent artists, ground-breaking world music and performing arts presentations, publicity and top-level marketing, merchandising and more. Penelope Curtis, Tiger Lilly Productions | Videographer

An eclectic lover of life and a roadrunner who loves the action of producing events having done them as a professional and volunteer since I was in high school. I am "she who watches"  someone who loves observing nature and then photographing it. I have been in the arts, culture, heritage and nature tourism field promoting geo tourism as a sustainable way to travel.  Currently, I am involved with Friendship Bridge a non-profit that provides microloans and education to Maya women in Guatemala; involved with Foothills Arts Resources & Media, producing Poetry Out Loud!; and Sustainable Tahoe, promoting geo tracks for sustainable tourism. Life is an adventure and wonderfully fascinating!

 

Terri Hicklin | Videographer

A proud resident of Nevada County for over 30 years, Terri Hicklin has long been involved in community. After a lengthy career in Social Services, she returned to school and received her degree in Communications. At that point she switched career paths, ultimately landing at our local, Nevada County, California community access television station, where she held the role of Station Manager/Access Coordinator for over 15 years. Freedom of speech and the important role of independent media is near and dear to her heart. She is an accomplished producer, videographer and a veteran community projects organizer. Her goal is to awaken and encourage people to become involved in their community, and to begin to make the necessary changes that will carry us all forward in a sustainable local and world environment. Terri invites everyone to become like the “ripple in the pond” and she strives to foster the creative spirit wherever and in whatever manner it may be found.

Lou Meyer, President of Foothill Arts, Media & Resources (FARM),  has extensive experience in music, video and television production and broadcasting. He has been a community activist for over three decades. Lou is a former Vice-Chair of the Mill Valley, California Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and is a former board member of Ewam Choden Tibetan Buddhist Center in Kensington, California. Past Internet projects include representing Addicted To Noise, the first-of-its-kind Web-based rock magazine and Mediacast, an early-entry live Webcast group.

Curtis Gruss | Professional Photographer

Curtis Gruss grew up in the SF Bay Area and graduated from San Jose State University where he studied photography and discovered his specialty in tabletop product photography. Curtis went on to work as a government contractor at NASA-Ames Research Center in the Photo Department and Film Repository there for several years. Throughout the years, he also enjoyed his other photographic specialty of shooting bands and musicians in concert. Now living in Nevada County, and after an extended hiatus, Curtis has returned to professional photography where he specializes in commercial, product and music performance photography. When not doing photography work, Curtis also enjoys cycling, skiing, and woodworking.

Karl Chelette | KVMR

A musician from an early age, Karl studied jazz at Laney College in Oakland working the jazz circuit as an acoustic bass player. He switched his main instrument to drums due to a hand injury and in 2001 moved to Nevada County with his wife Betsy Lombard. Karl studied video production at Sierra College, audio engineering online and is now a broadcaster and videographer at KVMR FM in Nevada City.

Susan is an experienced artist, marketing professional and conversation radio/TV host, now living in the Sierra Foothills, in Northern California. Mikail Graham | KVMR & Grass Valley Center for Arts

It was Mikail Graham who inspired the Utah Phillips Love in Action Award. A good friend of Utah’s, Mikail has shared his prodigious talents tirelessly for the past six years to produce the Night of Giving, an annual concert that gathers our community together for a holiday celebration that benefits Hospitality House.
 

 

 

Stanton Miller | Board of Directors Nevada County Arts

Stanton Miller is currently an Educational Consultant and Chair of the Board of Directors of the John Muir Charter School. He is also on the Board of the Nevada County Arts Council.  He is a Field Coach for Teaching Interns and Coach for aspiring School Administrators through Sac. County Office of Education. Prior to retiring he was the Associate Superintendent for Educational Services for the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools office. He was Superintendent of the Twin Ridges Elementary School Districtwhich at that time had 11 charter schools throughout Northern California. He was a School Principal for 20 years and a classroom teacher as well. He has also taught at the University level at Wilkes College(Fine Arts) and National University (Education). In addition, he is currently an exhibiting abstract painter.

Mike Anderson, President of Clientworks is Golden Road Radio Hour's technical advisor for Live-Stream.  Michael founded Clientworks in November 1997 after working for nine years as a System Administrator for the Grass Valley Group (GVG). Prior to moving to Nevada County in 1988, Michael worked in Silicon Valley for companies such as Fairchild Semiconductor, National Semiconductor, and Apple Computer. Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management from the University of San Francisco.
